This is the first article you are reading on this website (or it isnt, but just go along with it anyway ) . You’re from beyond the shores and wondering what we Brits eat , or perhaps you’re just a little out of reach from the Big Smoke and have always wondered why city wide boys (no, I’m not one.) throw their money away feasting on overfed snails. Well, forget everything you read, instead let me take you on my quest for culinary indulgence in the year of 2008, in the city of smoke and in search of that dish.

the union chilli burger
This is the beginning of the search for the top burgers in london.
It’s no real secret that burgers have slowly been devouring the capital in the past few years and I think it’s only appropriate for me to highlight some of the burger bars which are ever-present around town. On this outing, I chose to try five places:
- Gourmet Burger Kitchen - the original posh burger bar now serving buffalo.
- Burger Shack- smollensky’s take on the ol’ bun.
- Hamburger Union - One of the few which serves a steak burger.
- Hache Burgers - Self anointed connoisseurs and aspiring to be the best.
- Byron Hamburgers - proper burgers and nothing else.
Who has the best beef? Which bun can soak up the most juices? Which one serves the biggest shakes and just who exactly serves the best burgers in london.

Everybody does it. The first time they set foot in London, they are sure to hit the embankment area to catch the London eye, possibly the mayor’s offices and take obligatory pictures of tower bridge. After that, the thames just becomes this ‘been there, done that’ non-event. Surely such a scenic river holds much potential. What happens when you put together a beautifully laid yacht, a sunny autumn friday afternoon, excellent service, cool clientele and excellent food? You call it the veuve clicquot cruise.

The thames is beautiful. It invokes this lovely sea-breeze feel ( its a river I know ) but you can’t help but feel the buzz emanating from the city which surrounds it. There are just so many landmarks, the tate museum, the shakespeare globe theatre, the london assembly, canary wharf, the O2 , I could go on and on. Suffice to say the river still holds a certain charm, if only there was a way to get londoners excited about it again.
The food is awesome, read all about it here…

The financial storm has descended upon London like a dark cloud and it looks as if it might get worse before it gets better. But you know, that’s not going to change my commitment toward finding that dish in London. I’ve decided to go on the hunt for a cheap meal with no compromise on quality. I then remembered this great place serving giant pancakes for £8. Is it a must-eat? Read the full post to find out…
