Square pie , Selfridges 400 Oxford Street W1A 1AB, 020 7318 2460
£5 per pie , £6.99 meal deal with mash, gravy, mushy peas and the whole nine yards.
The selfridges food hall is still a thing of wonder ladies and gentlemen. It’s been there for quite a while now -square pie I mean- and it’s continued to grow. Having said that, there are still only just six outlets to eat the pie which is so good, it’s square. I wonder why that is because the pies are affordable and taste really good. Maybe it’s because they are breaking too many rules. In addition to squaring the pie - they recommend you eat their pies with mash, mushy peas… and gravy.
Alright, alright, you want to see the pie don’t you?

Oh, that’s abit of a long shot, you want a close shot do you?
Before we zoom in, I was wondering if you were familiar with ‘unboxing pictures’ . Forgive me if I’m being patronising: whenever a new mac product gets released the whole web ( flikr and facebook rather ) starts clocking up bandwidth with lots and lots of pictures of customers uploading literally unboxing pictures of aforementioned brand spanking new mac product. Here is an example. They also tend to stick a ‘first impressions’ commentary on how much saliva has trickled since they opened their new toy.
I would like to apply those mechanics to this box.

I was struggling with this one. I think this will be my first non-review-review since it wasn’t my intention to make the trek out to Ealing specifically to eat here.
I wouldn’t say that I was dragged either, but for a variety of reasons, I was the self-appointed photo-man for this year’s departmental christmas do. The decision to select charlotte’s place: “It had rave reviews on toptable.co.uk”
Yeah, just so you know, toptable is supposely the gold standard for company organised lunches now.

This review is way overdue.
First of all, wild honey’s reputation precedes them, yet I feel like their presence is still relatively low-key. I think of wild honey as the new wave of modern awesome british restaurants serving exciting food and modernising the sour reputation british food carries. Did I mention their three course set lunch menu is only £16.95? Read the full review here…

Everybody does it. The first time they set foot in London, they are sure to hit the embankment area to catch the London eye, possibly the mayor’s offices and take obligatory pictures of tower bridge. After that, the thames just becomes this ‘been there, done that’ non-event. Surely such a scenic river holds much potential. What happens when you put together a beautifully laid yacht, a sunny autumn friday afternoon, excellent service, cool clientele and excellent food? You call it the veuve clicquot cruise.
Visit London 2008

The thames is beautiful. It invokes this lovely sea-breeze feel ( its a river I know ) but you can’t help but feel the buzz emanating from the city which surrounds it. There are just so many landmarks, the tate museum, the shakespeare globe theatre, the london assembly, canary wharf, the O2 , I could go on and on. Suffice to say the river still holds a certain charm, if only there was a way to get londoners excited about it again.
The food is awesome, read all about it here…

Gordon Ramsay looms over British cooking like a big bad shadow. He owns no less than ten restaurants (in the UK) under his label and his formidable marketing machine is used extensively to turn those restaurants into brand names in their own right. All that gloss is seemingly a way of guaranteeing a quality fine dining experience, albeit one that feels manufactured (aren’t they all to some extent?) . My visit to Maze was not based on Gordon’s merit alone, rather I was drawn to the man in the kitchen, Jason Atherton. He has gained a cult status since opening Maze and I had to find out just how creative his unique taster menu really was.
