It has been a while since I last wrote about how my little blog was really doing in the wide, wide internet. I have since switched over to sitemeter and slowly overhauled the design and structure of the blog. As a consequence, my sitemeter stats only start from about mid October … I’m a number cruncher you see and I love bar graphs, Google analytics doesnt offer them. So how are we doing so far
I was in the middle of publishing a new ‘Why Subscribe?’ page to help new readers with RSS subscriptions and thought that the content would actually make for a pretty strong case of ’self-promotion’ . LE is still relatively young and I am always happy to see new readers subscribed to my latest articles. If you like LE, please do forward my website to your mates and tell everyone about it, it’ll encourage me to write even more stuff for your reading pleasure. I’m committed to producing great foodie content and I’m always looking for ways to improve the user experience and ensure that all articles are entertaining and delicious. If you like what you read on LE , I would love for you to subscribe to my latest updates. The updates are free and also spam-free, I don’t make any money if you subscribe, but what I do get is motivation and inspiration to write even more great content as LE’s subscriber numbers grow. Here are ten more reasons why you should subscribe to London Eater
In part one, it was all about the big & fluorescent things, in part two we focused on (German) food. Today is the last day of hyde parkero wonderlando and in part three, we conclude this mini-series with a few snaps of the people. The official site is here. (Almost) Everytime I’m out and about snapping things, I manage to get alot of pictures of the people around me. It started out being completely accidental, but these days I’ve started to realise that people are what adds to the buzz of a certain place. During this walk about, I captured some pretty beautiful people. Like these lovely ladies whom asked me to help them take a snap (with their camera). I duly obliged and also took a picture of them with my nikon. So beautiful girl whoever you are, I gave you my url, if you are reading this, then please drop me an email at kang.leong@londoneater.com. I’ll be waiting ….. in the mean time, check out the rest of the pictures from this trip
In part one, it was all about the big & fluorescent things, here in part two we focus on the food. It’s almost, an all German, all Bavarian affair. Only two more days left to go. Last day is Sunday 4th Jan folks. The official site is here. At the end of part one, I left you with on the door step of the christmas market ( and after spinning about on the UFO thing ). After a much needed lunch break, I’m firmly back in my blogging chair to resume part two of this series. Funfairs are great for the puke inducing rides and all, but it wouldnt be much of a fun fair if the air was not filled with aromas of all kinds of grilled meat now would it? The story of a german grill So I alluded to those german long things in part one, and here we jump straight into it. Legend has it the wurst is long, bouncy and full of flavour. Ok, well that’s depending on which kind of wurst you’re having that is. The last time I check, currywurst (literally sausages with curry) was Germany’s most favorite dish (bit like our chippie I suppose) and are basically grilled pork sausages, diced and then smothered with smooth curry sauce. Yowza
Happy new year ! I’m kicking things off in 2009 with a reminder for you to get off the couch and go to Hyde Park this weekend to experience the last few days of the magical winter wonderland …. (3 more days to go before the winter wonderland disappears into thin air and won’t return until Nov 09) In part one, it’s all about the lights and the big stuff like the wheel, the 40ft slide, the ice rink and other big stuff. Ok, so here’s the situation. It’s new year’s eve, it’s freezing cold at 3 C, you’re in London and you happen to walk past hyde park corner and wonder what the lights and fuss are all about. There’s far too many people around you, you hear the cheesy winter 80′s wham blaring from the hot dog stands, you see the children laughing with their parents and beautiful strangers walk up to you asking you to help them freeze their experience in time…. what do you do? Too late, that was last year. It is now 2009, the winter wonderland in Hyde Park continues but it’s only staying till sunday (4th January 2009) and you can either go there NOW…. or you can keep on reading and I’ll show you the sprinkles of magic those Germans have brought to our park. ( and then you can go there
You have been kind to me. You keep coming back to visit and you leave your comments on my many posts to lift my spirits. London Eater has been -and still is- a journey for me. I feel as if, I am just a child in the many worlds in which I am trying to make a mark. Many worlds? Why yes; there is the world of food, the world of blogging, the world of photography and life. Its a bit of a dilemma. On one hand, a blog- in it’s very nature – is a tool to broadcast your thoughts, on the other hand, LE ain’t a personal venting machine for my emotional musings …and it’s rather like shouting to the wind if I ever did so (don’t think I have that many interesting thoughts to begin with). But the attraction to do so is seductive. Once the thoughts start forming, and then the words start flowing, the process becomes a little unstoppable and it just feeds itself. I feel proud looking back at the past few months on the bulk of stuff I’ve managed to achieve. Granted, this site is still in it’s infancy, and I have many hopes and dreams for it going forward into the new year. I want it to be more than just a personal guide to london, I want to show you the
london eater is the one man eating machine chomping his way through his beloved city of smoke. Londoneater is officially 4 months old..yesterday. To mark the momentous occasion, I went on a rebranding spree and gave it a nice spit-shine. It’s all about minimalism and slickness going into the new year. From now on, I am no longer kang the konqueror , I’m going to call myself Kang the court jester of LE. Muahaha
……….. in case you hadn’t noticed, just a little heads-up
Jingle bells. It’s not long now before I break out the reindeer sleights and go ho ho ho across the London skyline… hey it’s Christmas – miracles do happen. I’m taking a break from the usual eating, because it’s chrissymas! Chrissymas is one of my favourite holidays because, well, my company is closed for 10 days and I don’t have to work. But it also gives me an excuse to cosy up without being dodgy. Most of all, chrissymas means yet more reasons to buy gifts and more gifts. Ah yes, tis’ the season to be jolly. So are you starting to think about your Christmas shopping yet? Well I am and if you’re stuck, then here’s some ideas to work up those warm wintery holiday feelings
My moo cards finally arrived and I thought it’d be nice to talk abit about them. If you do a quick flickr search for moo cards, you’ll find there’s a quite a following for these super cool things. I was surfing around for an appropriate idea for abit of offline blog promotion and came across moo.com . I thought this would make for some great cards, perhaps too nice to give away
How is your wednesday going so far? You know, I rarely do these personal ‘bloggie’ type posts to break from the usual eating but yesterday I was tagged by Howard & co who run the excellent sydney food blog eat show and tell , and so thought it would be the perfect excuse to jump in. (wee..) What is this tagging business you wonder (oh you wonder)
Hello foodies, this is just a quick post, I spotted this post on moneybush about increasing your technorati backlinks and consequently increasing your blog traffic. Interested? All you need to do is copy the list from the original post here , comment on it and then post about it. Go check it out now … and hopefully it’ll work!
I woke up to the BBC that the Barack Obama has brought about change to America. Wow. I have just witnessed history! I somehow feel as if the whole world was unofficially voting for Obama ( inside, we all know it counts ). It’s been so long since I last felt inspired watching a world leader deliver his piece ( Clinton was great at that ) and I think it’s about time we moved away from the ‘misunderestimations’ and ‘fish co-exisiting with men’ and ‘fooling once or twice and shame on you twice’ to ‘ We are one nation. We are one people and our time for change has come
A timeout from the usual eating to talk about site stats. After about 53 posts in 2.5 months, I think it’s a good time to stop, wonder and analyse the past in order to find the way forward. I’m following Krista’s lead, one of my favorite London food blogs, Londonelicious, and publishing my traffic numbers here
Graduation ceremonies in central london can be a rather colourful affair, everyone dressed up, glowing parents & excited extended family, all except the rather dreary and downright boring ceremony. Are you wondering why I’m blogging about ceremonies instead of food
Apologies guys, just let you know part 3 of the quickie wine guide is not going to be released this week, instead it’ll be published next tuesday. Since I caught the flu bug, my productivity has nose-dived like the FTSE 100. In addition, I’m in the process of shifting all my stuff to my new computer, or new platform to be more precise. In order to process my photos with more haste ( and quality ), I’ve decided to take the plunge with a mac. So I’ve been abit caught up with that of late. Moving gigabytes of data across the network is… well, time consuming to say the least. Not to worry, normal service will resume soon enough (sometime tonight), until then, there’s still alot of past content you can read: I love food pictures, especially fish, these were taken in Wales, have a look here. If not, do try this one here about food stories, let me know what food makes you smile . Finally, Meaghan at The Top Floor Flat wrote a review about me here (yay! my first review) , thank you so much Meaghan! Hope you guys have been enjoying reading this humble column, I promise alot more is in the works and I am always working hard to deliver new and exciting stuff. You keep coming back, I’ll keep churning out the good stuff
Every foodieblogger wants to share their deliciousness with as many foodies as possible, but it sometimes can be difficult driving traffic to your blog. We do our part to keep involved in the blogosphere, thank goodness for foodbuzz and all the wonderful new foodie friends I’ve made, leave comments on other foodie blogs we enjoy and try everything we can to deliver one message : We love food. How to get 1000 per day? I’ll admit now its not my idea at all, but rather, an excellent post on how to grow a young blog on problogger. To cut a long story short, here’s what you do
I removed the white padding around the page to give it a tighter look. Do you like it? Some of you, may have noticed the new logo, I’ve done away with the 960px by 240px banner and replaced it with a slim line 140px version. I’m going for the slicker look – hope its working out. I was mulling over this last night whether to keep my cheesecake image or to replace it with something else. I think for now, I’m just going to go with it. I have a plan to turn the image space into a rotating ‘feature photo of the week’ kind of thing, with a mini caption or something. Which one do you guys prefer? the old one above or the new one? Let me know. Constantly working hard to keep you, the reader, so very happy
It is friday and time to loosen those ties and go nuts. Woo. Some new upgrades going on here on londoneater, I’ve revamped the restaurant review page to add a nifty google maps feature. All thanks to Avi Alkalay for his excellent tutorial and plug-in to make it all magically work! Clicking on any of the markers will bring up the name/cuisine and the basic details of the restaurant. Clicking on the name wil take you directly to the review, so its pretty cool. So if you are feeling peckish but unsure of what to eat, then pop over to my map and have a quick scan through of what’s in your post code. Also on the restaurant page are newly added navigation so you can scan by cuisines or you can scan by the list. For now its just in alphabetical order, but I think in the coming weeks, I’m going to rank it instead. It’s be like the ‘ultimate list’ to end all lists. Well maybe not, but you know, I’m just creating drama. Woo. It’s friday. Go check out the page folks
Thanks to everyone who’s been visiting this site, I know it’s still alot of WIP, but I’m slowly and steadily adding more content now. The aim is to try and post something every other day in a different category. So my plan looks alittle like this so far: Day 1 - Restaurant Review Day 3 - Review a bottle of wine - Day 5 – a ‘just food’ post Day 7 - a post about a food shop/wine shop Any additional post – perhaps a quick recipe for the hectic working person? Its not all set in stone yet, but in my mind that’s kind of how I see things going forward. Where is the wine? yeah I know, I know, there’s no stuff on wine yet – I am working on it, good news is that I’ve stocked up with some pretty interesting bottles and am preparing a few posts on some of the more interesting places to buy wine around london, so fear not, the work is being carried out in the background! Basically, I’m aiming for the weekend to release a few posts to launch the wine section. So do keep coming back for that. Big things will happen on Sept 30th. I was recently contacted by a company to discuss the possibility of me helping out on a new and exciting travel website that will open its doors
