Shi Yang Culture Restaurant, Taipei : Yoda would eat here.
Photography by Kang L
January 22nd, 2012 Happy Chinese New Year folks, it is the year of the majestic fire breathing dragon. If you’re thinking about children, good luck with your dragon babies. My wishes to you are: 龙马精神, 阖家欢乐, 万事如意. To kick off the new lunar year, we travel to the hidden path within the mountains of Xizhi, Taipei. Where gravity [...] Read "Shi Yang Culture Restaurant, Taipei : Yoda would eat here." more

Lung King Heen, HK : The Tourist Attraction.
Photography by Kang L
January 21st, 2012 Yay, I visited the world’s very first 3 Michelin starred Chinese restaurant. First things first, check out the much advertised view from the Four Seasons Hotel restaurant (let’s face it, this is the view that has won it the coveted third star) : Hong Kong has long been considered the gastronomic jewel of South East [...] Read "Lung King Heen, HK : The Tourist Attraction." more

Chez Bruce : The Old Guard.
Photography by Kang L
January 10th, 2012 … I write to you as I lie on the blackened brown beach in Brunei. It overlooks the oil rigs just off the coast that fuels the economy of this tiny Sultanate on the Northeast coast of Borneo Island, and behind me, my parents’ backyard. Happy new year LDN. I am technically still on my [...] Read "Chez Bruce : The Old Guard." more

Burger & Lobster: … & Cocktails!
Photography by Kang L
December 23rd, 2011 This is the only time you’ll see the food menu, because these three items are quite literally all they serve. After Hawksmoor successfully ported the America’s favourite summer roll to the El Smoky last year, it was only a matter of time before the Russians would follow. Well it took them a while, but the [...] Read "Burger & Lobster: … & Cocktails!" more

Pizarro : Extremadura’s favourite son.
Photography by Kang L
December 18th, 2011 At last, José Pizarro’s diptych is finally complete, and you know what, it’s mighty fine work. The restaurant took a while to finish – it’s at least a month late, and the private rooms are still awaiting the finishing details – but it finally opened, and my my, is it going to be a smashing [...] Read "Pizarro : Extremadura’s favourite son." more

My favourite 11 places to eat in 2011.
Photography by Kang L
December 12th, 2011 AKA …where Kang spent most of his moolah this year. The time has come to reflect on what’s been yet another crazy year of restaurant collecting. Just when I thought the burgeoning number of openings in 2010 were overwhelming, 2011 came and smashed 2010 out of the park. There was literally something new to try [...] Read "My favourite 11 places to eat in 2011." more

Union Jacks : The kid finally done good.
Photography by Kang L
December 9th, 2011 Who comes up with all this fiction just for a restaurant? This is the persuasive language Oliver’s people have generated for his latest project: “Ours is a union of ideas, traditions, and of people.” “Where wood-fired flatbreads meet great British flavours.” Lookintomyeyeslookintomyeyes. What’s with the wonky name – why not just call it Union or [...] Read "Union Jacks : The kid finally done good." more

Lucky Chip Revisit: The best burger in London.
Photography by Kang L
December 3rd, 2011 My food writing invariably boils down to a caricature of self-indulgent cliched hyperbole or superflous self-doubting and pointless debate of what food should taste like. Given the circumstances, I sincerely believe this is the best thing between buns I’d yet come across. But first let us be properly acquainted. Reader meet Lucky Chip’s weekly burger [...] Read "Lucky Chip Revisit: The best burger in London." more

How is your wednesday going so far? You know, I rarely do these personal ‘bloggie’ type posts to break from the usual eating but yesterday I was tagged by Howard & co who run the excellent sydney food blog eat show and tell , and so thought it would be the perfect excuse to jump in. (wee..) What is this tagging business you wonder (oh you wonder)…

The golden rules of tagging: blue is me

  • Link to the person who tagged you Howard at eatshowandtell.com
  • Post the rules on the blog posted
  • Write six random things about yourself ok on to that now
  • Tag six people at the end of your post just six?
  • Let each person know they have been tagged by leaving a comment on their blog
  • Let the tagger know when your entry is published sure

Six random things about kang

  1. I used to be a pc, now I’m a mac.
  2. I love pets and used to have two dogs called doe and bird, after their breed the ‘doberman’ and I also had three terrapins. One somehow managed to climb out from his turtle tank and fell from roughly a height of about six feet (from his humble & comfy aquarium to the cement floor) and effectively ran away from home. Think prison break… but replace Michael Scofield with a turtle the size of a 50p coin. The other two layed eggs.
  3. My favourite basketball player is Dwyane Wade and grew up wanting to fly like Mike. Never did manage it so I started a foodblog instead.
  4. Moleskine is my notebook of choice and I have currently have three: one for my blog , one as my diary and the other for my dayjob…. did i mention Im a mad for moleskines?
  5. My surname ’Leong’ roughly translates to gentle, while my first name ‘Kang’ when combined with ‘Kent’ (ie: Kent-Kang) means health(y) . Incidentally I have a brother who goes by the name of Kent. Thanks mum.
  6. I have a black belt in karate.

Tag! You’re it.

I came across some new foodblogs while surfing foodbuzz and have decided that it’s only appropriate for me to tag them:

  • newcastlecentric the latest and greatest in tyneside nightlife up north.
  • adventures of kitchen girl is run by bubbly Jo who lives, loves and cooks, latest is a tipsy eggnog, yum!
  • dirty south twitis a twitter meetup (tweetup) in south london. I’m tagging because I want to bring west london heat.
  • no recipescooks with no recipes. supercool , go read it.
  • food by mark is quite literally food by mark.. oh! cumulus tag cloud too :D
  • londonelicious finally, Krista has been eating her way through london alot longer than me.

Extra, extra

Anybody interested in guest blogging on London Eater? Naturally, I’m available for guest blogging too if you think I’m not going to ruin your street cred. Do let me know if you’re interested folks!

It’s fun to read personal meme. I too, had a couple of terrapins, who also broke away. Once got chewed by Mushu – my golden retriever, and the other one got ran over by a car – most probably me who were driving.

  3. Jo says:

Jesssie thesimplyscrumptiousfoodie, Kenta is a really cool name and the only criteria for guest blogger is that you love food :) cooking, review, food story and all are welcomed . are you interested?

Jessie thehungrymouse, mua haha! moleskines forever!

  7. Banu (BaL) says:

    Wow black belt :D Great…

I have 3 terrapines too! Hey are you sure that the escape one is not at home? Because they can hide really well.

By the way… what’s the “guest blogging” issue dear?

  8. Banu (BaL) says:

Oh my! What terrific accident stories about terrapines :’(
Those whom have/or had terrapines! :D
Pls love your terrapines and take care of them.
They are kind of restless climbers, so please keep them in high-walled aquariums with enough material inside for them to stay on top, and get dry.
Love ‘em Love ‘em Love ‘em with care :)

  9. Teresa says:

I LOVE moleskines too! As I wrote in my tagged post, I love paper… This love also extends to notebooks too.

There’s just too many varieties of notebooks that I don’t know which one to choose…. what’s your favourite style?

  10. Howard says:

I love Moleskines too. For my next trip to Japan in Feb I’m going to start my own little ‘Moleskine Lonely Planet’ and hand it onto the next person who goes to Japan so they can fill the rest in!

Oh and Dwayne Wade, he is a class player. He can fill the entire stat sheet which is impressive for a PG/SG. He reminds me a bit of Jason Kidd in terms of the ability to do a bit of everything. Which reminds me, I still can’t believe Kidd is racking up triple doubles at 34 yrs old!

  11. Megan says:

Wow! I loved learning more about you! I am mighty impressed by the black belt!!!
I would love for you to do a guest post if you are interested! Just let me know!

  12. Foong says:

This just reminded me that I’ve a tag and a meme to do! Heheh…and Wow. A black belt in karate… *_*

  13. Kang L. says:

Banu – guest blogging, ie, you post one of your super sweet posts on london eater … are you interested??

Teresa , Howard .. hehe, moleskine fans! try this site http://moleskinerie.com . I’m on the fence, I like the large format moleskine it allows me to nicely spread my ideas on the pages .. but then I’ve got this two pack one which features a two-tone blue. Its still in the shrink wrap and i’m thinking of an excuse to use it!

Howard – kidd is like everygreen. He’s just got great basketball brain and he can read the game. I’m fast becoming a CP3 fan though :D

Megan, lol .. the black belt has since been replaced by an expanding waistlist due to my food cravings! and yes I would be mightily interesting in guest blogging at your munchies :D

Foong, lol .. like i said, expanding waistline!!
