- September 1st, 2010 Sushi bingeing. The final frontier. The unquestionably orgasmic delight of popping dollop after dollop of a food of an unrelentingly elegant design; low in fat, high in umami, arguably, an invention born of perfection. Some say the combination of raw fish and rice is an acquired taste, but for the converted, sushi is nothing but [...] Read "The Newsletter No.5: Catch The London Sushi Train." more

- August 26th, 2010 A firm, yet genteel voice answered the phone. The line was horribly muffled as I struggled to pick out the vowels through the low, low bass. Fum.Fum.Sa.Sa. I think she said, in a deceptively Japanese accent. An awkward silence befell. “Aka …ka…” I said. “ZZZassss… ka” she said, with a quickened pace. I gave up. - August 24th, 2010 I didn’t realise cameras in restaurants were still such taboo. This week I had two journalists ask me what I thought about the act of pulling out a camera in a restaurant, which some say is equal in every sense to dropping your trousers in the middle of the dining room and shouting: “Look at [...] Read "Photos, restaurants, and dropping trousers." more

- August 23rd, 2010 Yes I cannot believe it too. It is two years ago today, that I assaulted the internet with my barrage of hot air and vulgar food photography, which may as well be classified as taboo, and I would just like to start by saying Thank You for reading and putting up with me. So far [...] Read "Two years old." more

- August 23rd, 2010 Adam Byatt, the thinking man’s version of a celebrity chef, and owner of the much lauded Trinity restaurant, situated in leafy Clapham. Critics adore his work, for the invention, progression and enthusiasm he has brought to British cooking, and one expects no less from a chef who had apprenticed under Philip Howard, the cerebral owner [...] Read "Trinity: Sunday Roast, meritorious for 3." more
- Bea’s of Bloomsbury: The Sweetest Things.
- August 20th, 2010 It has taken me about a year to visit Bea’s in Bloomsbury, but I’m glad I finally made it. This tour de force bakery, cake house, coffee & tea shop produces top notch sugary things from their massive kitchen on site on a daily basis. Needless to say, their cupcakes are superb, personally I quite [...] Read "Bea’s of Bloomsbury: The Sweetest Things." more

- August 20th, 2010 From the creators of the sleeper hit of the century, the Icelandic inspired, macaron-winning, Texture, comes Rousset & Sverrisson’s next high octane, vinely-charged collaboration, titled 28-50. The name is a geographical tip of the hat to all the world’s vineyards, most of which lie between the latitudes of 28° to the North and 50° to [...] Read "28-50 : Drunken memories" more
- Twenty pounds of sushi at Mitsui, Taiwan.
- August 18th, 2010 Twenty quid doesn’t go too far in London, maybe two courses. Three if it’s a michelin-on-a-budget. On the otherhand, the Taiwanese have perfected the art of amazingly affordable fine dining on half a shoe string. Back in February, I was over in Taipei for my annual visit to see how my favourite cat (seriously) was [...] Read "Twenty pounds of sushi at Mitsui, Taiwan." more
Thanks to everyone who’s been visiting this site, I know it’s still alot of WIP, but I’m slowly and steadily adding more content now. The aim is to try and post something every other day in a different category. So my plan looks alittle like this so far:
- Day 1 - Restaurant Review
- Day 3 - Review a bottle of wine -
- Day 5 – a ‘just food’ post
- Day 7 - a post about a food shop/wine shop
- Any additional post – perhaps a quick recipe for the hectic working person?
Its not all set in stone yet, but in my mind that’s kind of how I see things going forward.
Where is the wine?
yeah I know, I know, there’s no stuff on wine yet – I am working on it, good news is that I’ve stocked up with some pretty interesting bottles and am preparing a few posts on some of the more interesting places to buy wine around london, so fear not, the work is being carried out in the background!
Basically, I’m aiming for the weekend to release a few posts to launch the wine section. So do keep coming back for that.
Big things will happen on Sept 30th.
I was recently contacted by a company to discuss the possibility of me helping out on a new and exciting travel website that will open its doors to the public at the end of the month. Discussions were cool and I really like the ideas they’ve got.
So, if all things go well, you’ll see me writing about food somewhere abit higher profile too! More info to follow as things inch closer and closer to that day.
Give me a little and I give you more
I hope you guys enjoy reading the posts. You know, this blog is really meant to be a hair-down, relaxed and personal way to discuss food, wine, restaurants in London. Food is abit like an adventure you know, there are so many stories behind them, especially the people who run the places. I mean, just a simple ‘how did this place get started?’ usually makes for rather interesting conversation in itself. And if you’re a bit like me, you’ll enjoy the good stories.
Imaphotographer
I’m trying my best to show food in the best light I can. All the photos are taken with my brand spanking new Nikon D40, with a sigma 18-125mm zoomer. My favourite is the photo of the cheesecake (on the banner). It was taken in a cafe in Chelsea.
I’m not that great a photographer. I’m horrible at composing shots..just the number of times I’ve managed to piss my friend off while I’m taking pictures of her, I mean, I could make a nice tree in the background seem like its growing out from the top of her head! Needless to say, I’ve not pointed a camera at her for a while now.
Although I must say that I am learning, starting to figure out the golden triangle to tack sharp pictures: aperture/exposure/shutter speed.
Lets not forget the godsend that is adobe photoshop and the excellent ‘The Digital Photography Book’,both vol 1 and 2 by Scott Kelby. He writes in a really clear way, 1 tip or shot per page. Really cool book for any budding beginners (such as me).
Yeah, so please do critique my shots and let me know of ways to improve them, so then it can help me make things better for you.
Ok that’s it for now, back to more food posting.
