I haven’t left the shop since 1 p.m. yesterday afternoon. In a span of 5 months, I had a total of 6 days off, including bank holidays. A break, would be a welcome one.
Plus I’d love to see how big those marshmallows are!

OMG I’ve never been to Lille before and would love to have this chance to go there! I’ve not had a holiday in more than a year so I believe I deserve a little break! It was also my husband’s birthday yesterday so it will be a great treat!
While we both work full-time and I study a Counselling degree my husband is renovating our dilapidated Victorian terrace which was last decorated in the late 60′s… with an avocado-green 3 piece suite in the bathroom, woodchip wallpaper, darkened chipboard on the ceilings, walls of bevelled mirrors, oh, and don’t forget the red/orange/brown/cream autumn-leaf carpet!
Our 1st wedding anniversary is rapidly approaching – with a dramatically reduced budget – and I’d love nothing better than to treat my foodie husband with tickets (in theme with the traditional “paper” gift) to this lovely haven.
Photos can be provided for verification!!
Hi! When I saw this on your twitter I was all over it like a frenchman on garlic!
i LOVE french food – when i say LOVE – i mean the kind of love that gets you drooling at the very mention of baguettes and crepes and frenchie things like that! I’ve only ever been to France once – and that was to Paris for a couple of days and I found the food to be over-priced and too touristy, hence a tad disappointing! I would love to try REAL french food and visit a tasty little bistro! yum!! *drooling already* I’m a new blogger but hoping to make my foodie blog famous from my international adventures…however one trip to Paris isnt making it look very exciting at the moment….So I would be sooooooooooooo excited to be able to try traditional Lille cuisine – mussels and carbonnade (life-time goal to try this dish!) especially! yum yum yum!!!
However, Lille serves more purpose than just food – now this is going to sound sad, very sad actually, but Lille is home an annual comic book festical held every November – of which I have never had the finances to attend (sad face). yes, I know, I read comic books.
Also, here’s a little heart-string tugger. I promised my Grandmother that one day I would visit Le Palais de Beaux Arts. She studied fine art at university and has a house full of beautiful pieces. I thought visiting the Louvre would be enough for her but apparently not so! Also after seeing the Mona Lisa and other works I discovered my own interest in fine art! So not only would a trip to Le Palais be fulfilling my Grandmother’s demands but it would also be very pleasant for me!
Anyhoo, I reeeeeeeeeeeeeally want to go to Lille and I live in London – how convenient I hear you cry!
xxxx
After being teased by other foodbloggers who had this wonderful days experience, I wouldn’t mind a piece of this myself! Call it Lille envy, if you like.
Because I feel like the only foodblogger in the world who wasn’t invited on the group shindig (snivel) and I have a basic human right to eat lots of macarons. Oh, and I need to tell that chef at L’Atelier that there is no such thing as a French tiramisu!
I’d love a little break to Lille as I need some of that macaron action!! I drooled while reading all the blogger accounts of the great trip, and all the great food. I firmly believe the best way to explore a new place is through its food, and since moving from Australia earlier this year have been doing my best to taste Europe. Haven’t yet made it to Lille, but am completely in love with the ease of the Eurostar and would love an excuse to whisk hubby away for a(nother) foodie weekend! Perhaps this is where the famed ‘Heathrow Injection’ comes from!
Don’t worry Graphic Foodie I wasn’t invited either – so maybe this is my second chance for mounds of croissants, swathes of creamy French butter and a bloody good steak. I have never been to Lille and I have just spent a month learning French so this could be my perfect opportunity to practice.
Gourmet Chick – that makes me feel better thanks! Talking of good steak, I’ve just spent a week with my vegan, non-boozing friends at their home and as lovely as they are I need a carnivore-vino fix and where better than Le France?
I would sooooo love a foodie trip to Lille! I’m fairly new to Europe and I’ am just bowled over by the amount of amazing regional food there is to be had in these beautiful little towns. I already get enough stick from my husband for spending hours of my free time pouring over recipes and restaurant reviews, leaving the food channel on in the back ground in case there’s something interesting on…..
On top of all this I work just meters away from St Pancras, and so every day when I arrive for work and head home I’m surrounded by people coming and going to far more interesting places than me… I haven’t been to France yet but I would love and adore the opportunity to explore one of its hidden gems, especially one where I can indulge my private food fantasies!
Lille – the town where I just long to be
Absorb the atmosphere and scenery
Savour every sweet delicacy
So much lovelier than grand Paris
Un café instead of cup of tea
The perfect city break for me
Very convincing arguments so far, I’d love to go back to Lille myself, but you guys thoroughly deserve them more than I do
I’d love a little break to Lille because I had such a fantastic time there and haven’t stopped raving about it to the husband ever since (who incidentally also wants to go). And because I can’t enter my own competition!
I did enter worldfoodieguide’s competition too, but 2 shots at one chance can’t hurt.
I’d like to win the tickets for my parents who haven’t been on holiday together for over 7 years and they work so hard, they deserve a break.
I commute through St Pancras every day from the East Midlands and always see all the people at the Champagne Bar about to set off on a weekend bread. I want to take my equally food obsessed and inspiration Mum for a girlie weekend.
I would love to go to Lille with my husband, I have to be honest going anywhere would be fabulous, Lille would be special, I have teenage twins and our alone time is non existent now as you can imagine and yes I am talking bedroom!!!
We need a Lille lovin!!
Maroilles, Grain d’Orge and Meert waffles – say no more!
I recently bought a new lens for my camera and am desperate to go somewhere exciting to try it out. Lille, with it’s beautiful historic buildings and fabulous food, would be perfect.
My OH has been promising to take me to Lille for about 5 years now! He’s so bone-idle he’ll never get round to organising it. That’s why I’d love to win!!!
Lille’s so pretty it makes everyone happy, there’s no place to be then little Lille really!
I’d love to go to Lille because it’s close to where my bf’s parents live and it’ll be great to see them again (:
May I ask where in Lille I can find those marshmallows?..
Ah I found it — Meert!
thank you thank you my mum and I are very excited and I promise to share the highlights if not the macaroons
Nice one Becky.
Just digging around for articles on travel to Lille and happened upon this competition. Just a little too late. Seems this competition is on most of the reputable lille travel blogs.
I was hoping to get over to Lille this football season to take in some French league football (seeing as UK club games close to me are always sold out) and follow up with a cultural exploration with a nice bit of grub and museum visit perhaps the next day. I found a deal with Short Breaks Ltd, Eurostar to Lille from £115pp. That includes train from London plus 1 night hotel on bed and breakfast basis. So I will be researching on French restaurant guides/blogs now before planning the trip. Can’t wait.
