I tried it for the first time a few weeks ago and loved it - the steak frites was great, as you say above. Justine's great as front of house too.

Kang - basically you and Grubworm drove me there finally last Sunday and it was as you said. I am almost afraid to grab my pictures off my camera and write about it as it will make me want to go there today.

Uncluttered (yet intricate - and I know those don't work) great cooking.

Great write up of a great restaurant. This remains the one place on St John St (inc the hallowed St John itself) that I would come back to again and again. I think it is superior (and more consistent) than Loubet too.

Glad you like the onglet - it was recommended by a waiter there and she was spot on. It is one of the best dishes on the menu. I'll definitely be heading back sooner rather than later.

Those are some lovely photos. Tho one of the onglet brings back happy memories... did you like the fries? I too love this restaurant and is my favourite. And all the better as I live just off St John Street. I agree with you that the food is exciting and good value, and I've had a better time here than at Caravan, Racine, Hix & Wild Honey, all visited recently.

Looks like you caught the menu on it's last days. A new menu was launched Tuesday this week, so you might return sooner than you think? I had a sneak preview on the Friday before and it's looking very exciting. Price range has increased, which includes a re-working of BVdH's signature foie gras with coffee & Amaretto/almond and a Ducasse-like rum baba. But you can still eat well at £35, so the choices are going to be interesting for punters. The new souffle is going to be apricot, I believe.

I miss the fine dining restaurant as I've had some outstanding dishes there, but if the new menu is anything to go by, it would appear that BVdH will marry some of those elements into future menus.
