Living for a year in Taipei, I did a beef noodle soup roundup, as well as a xiao long bao roundup. Din Tai Fung was third out of the 10 places I hit up. First went to Jin Din Lou off ChangChun Rd. and LinSen North.

But I will go ahead and agree with you here. Lin Dong Fang was the best. Better than Lao Dong, better than Lao Zhang, better than Hong Shi Fu, better than Yong Kang, better than Niu Ba Ba. I WOULD go ahead and say that I felt Yong Kang was better than the rest, followed by Lao Dong and Lao Zhang maybe tied for 3rd. There was a shop on Keelung Rd. that a couple of cabbies told me about, but I never found it, and never heard of it from anyone else.

Only three contestants? You should at least have twenty. :) Lin Dong Fang also gets my vote. One of the best! Their stewed firm tofu (hua-kan 花干) is my favorite as well.

Great round-up; I end up in Taipei every now and then for work, will definitely be checking some of these places out next time I'm there. Previously, I've spent my time there hunting Xiao Long Bao (at Din Tai Fung etc), so beef noodles will make a nice change!
