You can get Dim Sum served from trollies at New World Restaurant on Gerrard Place in Chinatown.
I have been going there for years, and it is great.
I prefer Trolly service as that is what I was used to in the USA. Menu ordering seems odd, and I prefer to look, point and eat!

There is nothing archaic about the hot trolly, and if the restaurant is busy you KNOW the food will be fresh.

I don't really understand the obsession with trolleys. In Hong Kong (where I'm from), the majority of yum chaa places don't use trolleys anymore because space is a premium and having more room for the trolleys means less room for tables and a few extra covers. As with any other type of cuisine, the trappings aren't aren't as important as the food itself!

They still have trolleys at my family's old favourite, Cheun Cheng Ku on Wardour St. Maybe not the best dim sum in London but it has a very welcoming atmosphere and great food (especially the char siu bao) - kept us coming back for about 20 years!

This No Trolley thing is ridiculous. Being an Australian I just can't even imagine this no trolley system. you mean you have to order? Seems totoally wrong to me.

BRING BACK THE TROLLEYS LONDON!

Might have to go to New World then since it seems the onnly place that does proper traditional Yum Cha.

Thanks for this - am visiting london for work and would like to try the dim sum here. for what it's worth, whereever I've eaten dim sum in toronto, new york and san francisco - all still use trolleys. Certainly most, if not all NYC restaurants use trolleys for dim sum. it's a big steam bath so food stays hot.

Would recommend your readers go with "Guk Bo" for tea - combo chrysanthemum and black tea

I have been to all you suggested Kang, but I still think that Superstar in Chinatown still performs at a much higher level. No one talks about Superstar at all, but try it, you wont be disappointed.

Just wondering if you'd tried Phoenix Palace near baker St lately? I am mad about dim sum and extremely fussy (spoilt by Sydney and Melbourne Chinatowns) about it, but have been going here for a while and it's really very good (well, the squid's not up to much but that's the only failure I've come across) - would recommend you try. Friendly service too. If only they'd get some trolleys!

Yum cha / dim sum would be my final meal of choice; even if that involves a bit of cheating given the range. For mine, a trip to Yum Cha in Camden for their turnip cakes and variety of steamed dumplings is a sure guarantee fix of goodness. And when wanting something with a bit more refinement, Hakkasan gets my vote with their Peking dumplings served in a chilli, coriander, garlic and ginger broth and their bouncy, flavoursome har gau.

Agree with the menu versus trolley argument but I do love trolleys just for nostalgic reasons! But one thing that's annoying is when the English descriptions for dishes vary from place to place or are just so vague.
