I had really bad service here yesterday, I was waiting for two friends, less than 5 minues and the waiter came up and told me if my friends didnt arrive soon he would kick me off the table. I have never experience this before. The food was ok.. it is reheated in the microwave.. so all the nutrients are zapped out before u eat it. I live in Chelsea and Im not going back staff are too rude.

I take it you have been to Jak’s Cafe and had a negative experience?

Yes, you are right about it not being a ‘destination’, which is why I’ve said that it is basically a neighbourhood cafe. I don’t think I said it was special, or even a kind of destination. And as a neighbourhood cafe, I thought it was pretty good, it’s a nice place to have something simple, easy. I did return as a paying customer to eat there again.

But I do accept that you are questioning the objectivity of my opinion, since it was a comp. Having said that, I still strive to provide my full opinion about the meal in question, regardless of who paid the bill and approach the write-up as I would do if I had footed the bill myself. As I had said earlier, I liked Jak’s enough to have returned a few times, and have taken my friends there too. As the name implies – Jak’s Cafe – it is a neighbourhood cafe, but I see no reason why I cannot recommend it.

But I leave the judgement up to you, the reader, and for the reader to value my opinion. All I can really do is disclosed the full circumstances of the meal, and take the flak when challenged.

Comp’d food and a gushing review of what is essentially nothing special, in fact very ordinary: its only stand-out feature is that it’s comparatively cheap for the area. Tabbouleh and lasagne? give me a break. Bsically a canteen. Not a desintation.

I am a major cheesecake lover, and I loved the way you described this one. Good cheesecake is very hard to find in the UK. So far the best one I’ve had was the carmel macadamia cheesecake at Ottolenghi. Now i want to try this one!

Gosh…that cheesecake is seriously droolworthy stuff! Your pictures are FABULOUS Kang, and I love the review. I donot like aubergine, but that bake has me mesmerised! WOW!!

That cheesecake looks gorgeous – just the thing to fight off the winter blues. (Love the M&S voiceover comparison!) I haven’t been to Jak’s before, but always great to have a recommendation for that area.

A cafe like that is so valuable to have locally. The food looks fresh and your photos certainly make it look incredibly well made and delicious, particularly the quinoa and the aubergine. Next time i am in SW7 i will be sure to check it out.

I love this sort of place – but whilst I find them all over the place in Sydney, much harder to find here. Will definitely have to give it a try.
