I think you've captured the place well - it's not destination dining (i.e., food is highly inconsistent yet not especially cheap), but if you're careful with what you order, you can piece together a decent meal. I much prefer Ottolenghi and the Regent Pub for a quick Italian fix in the neighborhood. And I love the Sampler - a brilliant place.
